EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- After a week of practice, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson says he is ready to return to the field.Appearing on Dash Radio with DJ Skee (who provides pregame entertainment for Vikings home games), Peterson said he plans to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, adding that a week of practice following his return from a torn meniscus showed me Im ready to roll.Peterson will be the starting running back Sunday, the Vikings announced. The Vikings officially activated Peterson on Saturday, who had surgery on his torn right meniscus Sept. 22 and has been on injured reserve since.Peterson said Friday afternoon that he made the decision to play after talking with coach Mike Zimmer, running backs coach Kevin Stefanski and the Vikings athletic training staff.I was able to come to the conclusion, talking to the head coach, my position coach and the training staff, that Im going to go, Peterson said. The betting line for Sundays game has gone from Minnesota minus-4 to minus-5 at many Las Vegas sportsbooks since Petersons announcement. On Thursday, Zimmer had said that the call would come after a group discussion, adding, Its a lot to do with the medical [diagnosis].Peterson said Thursday that he would wear a knee brace if he did return this season, which he typically has preferred not to do. Given how quickly he plans to return from the injury, though, the running back said it makes sense to take extra caution. The 31-year-old running back opted in September for a full repair of his meniscus, which typically requires between four and six months of recovery. League sources told ESPN in November, however, that Petersons knee was 90 percent healed and said the running back was looking to come back Dec. 18 against the Colts or Dec. 24 against the Green Bay Packers. Peterson said last week that it would be pointless to return if the Vikings -- who were 6-6 at the time before a win Sunday in Jacksonville -- were out of the playoff race. The Vikings enter Week 15 two games behind the Detroit Lions in the NFC North and one game back of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the second wild-card spot.He will have to reacquaint himself with an offense that has changed since Pat Shurmur replaced Norv Turner as offensive coordinator in November. There certainly are some new things were doing that hes not as familiar with, Shurmur said. Hes been in meetings. Hes been around. Hes somewhat familiar with what were doing. But knowing it and actually executing it are two different things.Said Peterson on the radio: Ive been having my head in the playbook this week, just anticipating going out there as well. Ive got some things I need to clean up a little bit, but Ill be out there on Sunday.According to a Billboard story from August 2014, Peterson was one of the founding investors in Dash Radio, a free streaming music service founded by DJ Skee, aka Scott Kearney, a Twin Cities native.Cheap JaVale McGee Jersey . So which team has more momentum now?Duke and Virginia meet Saturday in a deceptively important game that could put the loser into a substantial hole in the Coastal Division standings.Virginia (1-3, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) has struggled in Bronco Mendenhalls first season, but is coming off a 49-35 win over Central Michigan as a slight home underdog to a Mid-American Conference school. We certainly have not arrived, Mendenhall said.Duke (2-2, 0-1) pulled off what counts as a stunner : The Blue Devils were 20-point underdogs at Notre Dame but rallied for a last-minute 38-35 victory. And now that theyre back to being the favorites -- Duke is favored by 3+ points -- they cant afford complacency.I think there is some truth when people say at times, success is harder to handle than adversity, coach David Cutcliffe said. Some things to know about the Virginia-Duke game:EDWARDS HURT: Dukes victory came at a pretty big cost: Kick returner and safety DeVon Edwards college career ended when he tore ligaments in his left knee on a kickoff. Edwards, a redshirt senior who returned six kickoffs for touchdowns during his career, will be replaced in that role by RBs Shaun Wilson -- who brought a kickoff back 96 yards for a key touchdown against Notre Dame -- and Joseph Ajeigbe. Alonzo Saxton II figures to fill his spot in the secondary.DUNCANT: Duke will be without leading rusher Jela Duncan, whos out with a leg injury. Wilson will replace him in the starting lineeup with Ajeigbe backing him up.dddddddddddd Duncan ranks eighth in the ACC in rushing at 78.5 yards per game.INJURED CAVALIERS: Virginias secondary took a hit, too, with cornerback Tim Harris having season-ending shoulder surgery and Juan Thornhill suffering an undisclosed injury during the Central Michigan game. Thornhill, though, is listed as probable at one cornerback spot this week but the other is a question mark after sophomore Myles Robinson is ruled out with a lower extremity injury.WELCOME BACKVirginia QB Kurt Benkert will finally take a snap in the state of North Carolina. Benkert was supposed to be East Carolinas starter last season but suffered a season-ending knee injury in August and transferred to Virginia after coach Ruffin McNeill was fired. Benkert set the school record with 421 yards passing in the win over Central Michigan. McNeill, meanwhile, also is at UVa as an assistant head coach and defensive line coach.THE SERIESThe Cavaliers have been the one team that Duke has dominated since Cutcliffes arrival in 2008. The Blue Devils have won six of eight in that span, but Virginia won 42-34 last year.GETTING PRESSUREDuke has 17 sacks in four games, with DT A.J. Wolf recording a team-best four. The Blue Devils had 17 sacks in all of 2015. That defensive front will face a test from a Virginia team that did not allow a sacks in the Central Michigan win.---AP College Football: www.collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '
