SAN DIEGO -- As Philadelphia Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoffs record attests, he has pitched in tough luck most of the 2016 season.Eickhoff, 26, is 6-12 despite a 3.68 ERA in 22 starts. His won-loss is really misleading, Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said recently. We havent consistently gotten him a lot of runs and hes lost a lot of close decisions. But Eickhoff could be catching a break Sunday when hes matched against Padres right-hander Jarred Cosart in the rubber match of a three-game series at Petco Park. There is this triple whammy hanging over the Padres this season. The Padres have struggled on Sundays (3-14), in day games (10-25) and in final games of series (8-27).And all three of the Padres problems are in play Sunday as they end a six-game homestand. The Padres have fared better recently in series finales (5-4 in the last nine) and day games (4-5). But they have made little gains on Sunday.I dont know what it is, Padres manager Andy Green said recently of the triple whammy. But Im pretty sure its most coincidence.Plus some lopsided pitching matchups, which it appears there is another one Sunday afternoon. As Mackanin said, Eickhoff deserves better. He has allowed only 129 hits in 132 innings. With a 112-31 strikeout-to-walk ratio, opponents have hit only .258 against him.And the Padres didnt come close to faring that well when Eickhoff faced them on April 13 in Philadelphia. Eickhoff shut out the Padres on four hits in seven innings and picked up the win in his only previous start against San Diego. He didnt walk a batter and had nine strikeouts. In Eickhoffs two most recent starts, he has allowed one run and seven hits in 12 innings.Meanwhile, Cosart will be making his second start as a Padre. He went only 3 1/3 innings in his first outing, didnt allow a run and gave up only one hit. But he issued six walks and threw 77 pitches, of which only 34 were strikes. We like the stuff, Green said of the 26-year-old right-hander acquired in the July 29 trade that sent right-hander Andrew Cashner to the Marlins. The pitches are there, he just needs to command what he has.Cosart made four starts earlier in the season with the Marlins, although he was with Triple-A New Orleans when the trade was completed. Cosart was 0-1 with the Marlins with a 5.95 ERA. But during the final five starts of 2015, he was 1-1 with a 2.96 ERA.Starting pitching has become a major concern for the Padres. Short starts have been taxing the bullpen, which explains why the team is carrying eight relievers and Saturday replaced one veteran left-handed reliever (Matt Thornton) with another (Clayton Richard).Thornton is a one-inning pitcher. Richard can work longer and could spot start between now and the end of the season if the Padres need rotation help and Tyson Ross isnt available around Sept. 1 as expected.Black Air Max 90 China . Russell Wilson took the Seahawks (4-2-1) to the New Orleans 10, where he had one final play. He lofted a pass toward the corner of the end zone, where Jermaine Kearse caught the ball, but landed out of bounds.Wilson finished with 253 yards passing and was intercepted once by linebacker Nathan Stupar -- a play that set up the Saints first TD on Brees 1-yard dive over a pile of players. Brees lone touchdown pass went to Brandin Cooks on a 2-yard slant , which gave the Saints the lead for good early in the fourth quarter.Wil Lutz kicked field goals of 22, 53, 21 and 41 yards for the Saints (3-4), the latter coming with under two minutes left to put Seattle down by more than a field goal.MISLEADING STATS: The Saints controlled much of the first half and held advantages in numerous statistical categories -- such as yards (179-161), first downs (16-6) and time of possession (21:22-8:38) -- but two big plays helped Seattle take a 14-13 lead into halftime.First came Mark Ingrams fumble . Seattle defensive end Cliff Avril punched the ball out from behind and it popped straight into the arms of safety Earl Thomas, who sprinted into the open field for a his 34-yard touchdown.A trick play set up Seattles second score. Wilson threw a quick backward screen to his left to receiver Tanner McEvoy, who then thrrew deep back across the field for a 43-yard completion to running back C.ddddddddddddJ. Prosise to the Saints 2. That set up Christine Michaels short TD run, making it 14-3.New Orleans also might have cost itself a touchdown on its first scoring drive. Brandon Coleman gave himself up after a third-down catch, going to the ground a yard short of what would have been first-and-goal. The Saints then opted for a field goal.Later, Lutzs 53-yard field goal made it 14-6, and New Orleans finally reached the end zone on Brees keeper shortly before halftime.Seattles defense also forced a field goal in the third quarter after the Saints had a first-and-goal on the 1.BENCHED: Ingram was benched after his fumble on this third carry of the game. It was his second fumble in as many weeks while trying to fight through a pile of players for extra yards. A week earlier, Ingrams fumble inside the Kansas City 10 stalled a likely scoring drive in a six-point loss. Tim Hightower replaced him and wound up with 102 yards rushing, the first 100-yard rusher of the season for New Orleans.GRAHAMS RETURN: Jimmy Graham was silent about his return to the place where his NFL career started, avoiding media all week. He had a relatively quiet game as well, finishing with three catches for 34 yards.BREES AT HOME: Brees now has a TD pass in 58 consecutive home games, extending his NFL-record streak.UP NEXT: Seattle hosts Buffalo in the Week 9 Monday night game, while the Saints travel to meet San Francisco next Sunday.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
